Coming as a surprise to virtually no one, Infinity Ward, makers of the latest in the Call of Duty franchise, the Modern Warfare remake, is under fire. Again. Not only have there been issues with the release on the PS Store in Russia, there was a storm of criticism of the game in late September. Last month came the announcement that the Spec Ops Survival mode would be a timed PS4 exclusive, leading to outrage in the community. There didn't appear to be any justification for this decision, as it only makes sense for buyers to receive complete access to the full game upon purchase. Some creators even went so far as to make fun of the decision, recalling how timed exclusives between platforms used to be common and joking about this choice by the team being payback for that era in gaming history. It gets even better. Going back on a very BIG promise made earlier in the year about there being absolutely no non-cosmetic microtransactions in the game, the news was leaked that the team and Activision were discussing adding them to the game over time. Worse, the powers that be did not explicitly deny this. A popular YouTuber, YongYea covered this bit of news. You can watch his take on it down below. With this news came a host of lost pre-orders. A few weeks later, YongYea covered the next bit. Activision announced that Battle Pass would be at the forefront of monetization for the game and the microtransactions won't be present in the game. It at least appears that they're giving players almost everything we want. You can watch the update from October 17th below. Now players are already underwhelmed. Even popular YouTubers like 402Thunder402, who remained largely hopeful and supportive up until launch, have been going to town on the game. They've complained of things like the pacing of the game and rewarding the camper play style, going so far as to declare that the game punishes players who push the line or objective. We watched his gameplay and we honestly have to agree with him. You can view the same video we did below. Now, before the hate train gets to rolling, we feel the need to provide some background information. Thunder is a notorious Call of Duty YouTuber who remains renowned for his versatile and constantly evolving play style. He has been known to play objectives since at least Modern Warfare 3, is a highly skilled slayer type, and has even gone through a hardcore camping phase as recently as Black Ops 2. It was that generation of CoD when he encountered another popular content creator who goes by Blackxworm. Unafraid of changing his opinion when provided new information and strategies, Thunder enjoyed using this play style in public lobbies.
So, if ^THAT^ guy is complaining, there could very well be something wrong. We're not saying whether or not you should get the game, or whether or not you'll enjoy it. However, we are saying you should carefully consider what you're looking for before you take either side. Please join the discussion below and let us know what you think. And remember to be nice!
Obviously we can't read Russian, so we relied on the magical powers of Google Translate to help us with this. Check out the block quote below for the contents of the message.
At the heart of Modern Warfare is a fully fictional story, carefully crafted to please all players. SIE decided not to sell the game in the Russian PS Store. We look forward to the release of the game in digital form for PC and Xbox on October 25th.
Preload #ModernWarfare now on all available platforms to be fully armed on Friday.
Due to the endless loop of Sony Russia blaming Activision and Activision blaming Sony Russia, there's an unfortunately large amount of conjecture from the onlookers about the exact reason why the game was pulled and banned from the Russian PS Store. We're going to reserve our judgment for now and keep an ear out for more news about this situation. Please join us in the comments below the cinematic trailer to continue the conversation.
Admittedly, we're a bit late to the party, which means this game deserves a lot more attention. Either that or we've been living under a giant rock because the game hasn't been on the platform a year yet and it's already got over half a million downloads. As for iOS, it was released three years ago. PPKP is a beauty of a retro game that brought the glory of the 90's to 2016. True to the spirit of classic games like Street Fighter, it's got fireballs, hurricane kicks, flying uppercuts, lots of action, flashy combos, short cut scenes, a map to progress through, a leveling system, and even a timed car smashing sequence. Somehow toshihiro_app managed to accomplish all of this with just a two button control scheme for a touchscreen display. That's amazing. You start off with an assortment of basic combos you can string together with a stamina bar composed of just three segments. Each segment represents an attack you can include in your turn, maxing at three. These combos look cool but aren't anything special. At first. But then you start to earn gold, which can be used for leveling up your character. As you progress through countless hours of fun, you eventually earn enough gold to feed the protagonist until he levels up. After leveling up a few times, you'll automatically get another section. You then get to the point at which you can start repairing and upgrading the buildings at your starting point. You'll need these buildings to help you further upgrade the hero so you'll have an easier time getting through the advanced levels of the game. Take a look at the demo by Toshihiro Shimada below. As you progress, you'll begin to repair the city while you fly to different sections to face bosses. Where you start, however, is just an infinitely long gauntlet of monsters for you to face down and bring your stats up. Not only can you gain strength and defense through leveling, you can also use the gold you earned to buy those and various helpful items. Our favorite things to buy are the more powerful combos. Though there are microtransactions in the game, they aren't actually pay-to-win. You can buy items to help you play longer, bearing in mind the game is designed to make players take a break after a few hours of uninterrupted playing. It uses a timed fuel system for the taxi you'll have to take to the fight in each map section. And to get to the other parts of the map, you'll have to unlock a pretty awesome helicopter he'll drop in from to clear the boss level. The bosses are tough but not impossible to beat. With adequate timing, the right upgrades, and the right combos, you'll blow right through them. Each combo does a different amount of damage to each monster. That's why we like to power up by buying them from the dojo. You can pay money for gems and use those for some of the coolest moves but it's not absolutely necessary to do so. Everything can be accomplished with the standard moveset. Now, the game isn't perfect. It does occasionally suffer from input latency and miss a few taps here and there, but these issues can easily be overlooked because those are the only problems we could find. Our rating: 9/10Toshihiro has done a fantastic job with this game and we strongly recommend you give it a try. You can leave your feedback below.
Starting today, Valve launched the beta for Remote Play Together. For the uninitiated, the feature allows gamers to play local multiplayer remotely. It allows for up to four, sometimes more in ideal conditions, to play together. The system will behave as if the other players' controllers are connected directly to your PC. A requirement for access to this beta is participation in the Steam Client Beta. So, if you've already joined in, you just may be in luck. But you may be able to jump in by signing up now. Currently, you can activate the feature in your friends list when you're playing games that already support the feature. You'll see the Remote Play Together feature confirming support and serving as an invitation. The best part about this is the fact that only one player [the host] needs to own the game. The rest of the players will use Steam Remote Play streaming technology. Another good thing is that your desktop is not shared, only the game itself. So, there's no need to worry about your personal business being out there. And to put the icing on the cake, you can play together with friends across Linux, PC, and Mac.
We feel we need to caution that you be patient during this beta, as the team is still working on improving the feature. They'll be improving stability and compatibility across an assortment of hardware during this beta. Hopefully all goes well. Head on over and join in the fun! Google Stadia is back in the news again. This time it's for the announcement of CyberPunk 2077 coming to the platform in 2020. CyberPunk 2077 has received a ton of press this year. The game features actor Keanu Reeves as a leading character in a future sci-fi fantasy that fans have been clamoring for. The game is currently set for release on 16th April 2020. If you've managed to somehow not hear about the game, you can jump on over to the game's YouTube channel and take a look at the beautiful visuals there. And if you just want to see the game without a lot of jumping around, no problem. We've included a clip below. Brought to you by CD Projekt Red, the makers of The Witcher game series, CyberPunk 2077 is an open world RPG about a dystopian future. In August, Google made an announcement that the title would be hosted on their cloud gaming service on their official Stadia channel. You can have a look at their overview below this section as well. We're well aware that some people may have some concerns about the platform's ability to stream such graphically intensive content with any form of gameplay reliability - especially with the recommended bandwidth. That being 10 mbps - 35 mbps. Well, to address that, they've also announced a feature called negative latency. What this essentially does is predict all the possible actions of the player and then queues them for confirmation. Once said action is confirmed, it's carried out immediately. However, what we found really interesting is the system's ability to quickly switch to one of the other queued actions and carry them out. Therefore, without having to wait for and process a new command from the very start, the streaming server can minimize the input time by having all of the commands ready ahead of time. This could be an excellent way for all online gaming platforms to cut into latency, a common frustration of many online gamers. Furthermore, if things go as planned, even hardcore gamers should be able to reduce internet costs while still getting their fix; us included. We're honestly very excited about all of this news and hope to get our hands on it sooner than later. What do you think? Are you excited about CyberPunk 2077's release? Are you planning to buy a Google Stadia? Let's talk down in the comments below. Thanks for stopping by and reading! |
