The problem is that the outrage mob is using bias to shield themselves from the point that he was making - and he included himself in that criticism. Gaming alone, strictly for fun, doesn't get anyone anywhere; the hobby is a waste of time, as are most hobbies. Most; not all. That's what he's really comparing. Furthermore, he's talking about kids and career paths. You can see the full clip below. He's not wrong about that, and that's fine. What you have to listen for is the part of the discussion regarding over commitment, brand loyalty, gaming addiction, impulsive item purchases [loot boxes], the injection of gambling mechanics into mainstream games, and the highly competitive and over saturated market for professional gamers. You can't just overlook that. All of that is a part of the point he's making. Do you know how difficult it is to start and maintain a successful pro-gaming team? Do you know how difficult it is to win those tournaments or keep up with their schedules? Do you know how many millions of people lean on them for advice, game reviews, hardware reviews, marketing, and investments? Do you know how difficult it is to start and maintain a strong gaming channel - just to talk about whatever comes to mind while you show your gameplay? Most aren't even making the attempt; they're just playing games. What he's wrong about is the prevalence of haters in eSports who would tell you that you can't do it.
There aren't any gatekeepers in this culture. It's not difficult to join a pro-gaming league, it's difficult to start a pro-gaming team and secure funding. It's difficult to draw significant attention to a new gaming channel. It's difficult to stay in business - and that's fine. It's just western economics. It's not easy to prevail in any industry. That doesn't make the martial arts world far superior, but it does make it noticeably easier. It's easier to be noticed in the martial arts world, that world is older, it's more developed, and it's humongous. Do a few weeks of research, join a good school, work hard, join a good gym, train hard, get noticed, become a professional fighter or stunt actor. The digital gaming sphere is a new world. It's a large, chaotic world and it's still rapidly developing. Take this criticism and use it to make our world better. Use what he got right to improve the experience and build more paths to success for more gamers. That's really all there is to it. Got something to say? Leave it down below. For now, get over it and stop trying to cancel everyone who doesn't think everything you like is flawless. At least they care enough to take notice and say something. Use that criticism to fix it instead of trying to shut them up. Just do the work.
Stay up. 1.
For example, we, by and large, don't have a problem with a female lead. We tend to not care in the slightest. Are there outliers? Of course! Outliers exist everywhere and with everything. There are people who don't eat chocolate because they don't like it. Does that mean that everyone who doesn't eat chocolate is guilty of the same? No! There are a TON of people in that group who don't eat chocolate because they can't. If a religion of chocolate some day developed and took the world by storm, imagine how terrible it would feel for one of those followers to condemn you to eternal suffering simply because your body can't handle it. See why it's bad to lump everyone in with their outliers now?
That's why we don't like it. These new ideas are bad ones. For people who know the story, it's incredibly difficult for us to suspend our disbelief when we see these characters do things that are uncharacteristic, suffer brutally unrealistic consequences for them, and then be replaced by other characters that fit a certain mold [checklisting]. We're fully justified in hating it. On the other hand, Ghosts of Tsushima is based on world history, and is a fictional tale wrapped up in a major event that actually happened. It's not a supposition or an interpretation of certain culture elements, the implications, and the ethics, it's actually documented. If you knew world history and had a genuine connection to gaming, you would know that. They're not trying to force the player to see things through a specific lens and pick a side so that yet another law can be made that will most certainly place guilt on an otherwise innocent person, justify their persecution, and violate their inalienable rights. That's the difference and problem in a nutshell. Got a gripe? Leave it down below. For now, keep your political agendas out of our games. Stop shaming us; we're not the problem. Your obsession with it means that you are. In an era of dynamic flipping and countering prejudice with prejudice, the world needs more gamers to not give a damn about your false outrage, profiteering, selling out, money grubbing, or power grabs.
