who wants an outcome like that? Listen, we're not here to load everyone up with broken play systems that require micro-transactions to balance out. We're here to have fun and kick ass - just like you are. That's what sport essentially is, isn't it? Let's see... Sport (mass n w/ adj): "Success or pleasure derived from an activity such as hunting or fishing" - Oxford Living Dictionaries, definition 1.2 Sport (dated): "Entertainment; fun" - Oxford Living Dictionaries, definition 1.3 Sport (archaic): "A source of amusement or entertainment" - Oxford Living Dictionaries, definition 1.4 We're not just making that up either. Here, look. And here's Merriam-Webster, for good measure. So, it seems we've got it right...right? Good! We're glad you think so! We sincerely believe this. Though we have bright, fun personalities, we're dead serious about building this new community. When it comes to gaming, your happiness is our business. That's the work we do, and that's what makes this community important. We'll expand on this. Gaming is becoming less fun and more work. Something as personal as gaming, an artistic medium, has become just business. How many times have you, the player, been really enjoying a new mobile game - only for the development team to sign a deal with a major publisher that guts the in-game economy and fills it in with ridiculous micro-transactions? Seriously, are you really happy about that? Would you rather endure that just to dodge a few ads? Isn't it more cost effective to just buy the game straight out? Let's look at that mathematically. Average cost of a AAA quality mobile game (previous): $2.99 - $7.99 Average price range of micro-transactions per game: $0.99 - $99.99 $99.99 (item) / $7.99 (game) = 12.5 (approx.), round down to 12 GAMES $99.99 (item) / $2.99 (game) = 33.4 (approx.), round down to 33 GAMES $2.99 (game) / $0.99 (item) = 3.02 (approx.), round down to 3 ITEMS $7.99 (game) / $0.99 (item) = 8.07 (approx.), round down to 8 ITEMS Do you see the problem? This isn't an effective use of money for diehard or casual gamers. Why can't we, as gamers, have nice things? This wasn't necessary even 10 years ago, and these companies generally did perfectly fine. It's not at all necessary to gouge gamers like this. Look at the difference. Only 3 items cost the same as a cheap AAA quality mobile game, and just 8 items for the cost of a high cost one. Sure, there were the rare $14.99 - $19.99 games that launched as well, but even they are falling to the micro-transaction scam. Look at the math. Yes, it's a scam.
For one top item package for just one game, a player could buy 5 - 33 full mobile games :-O There is no value in this. This isn't a good deal. Considering the goal is to pressure you into making multiple purchases, each that you're fully expected to blow through in less than a week to compete, or invest hundreds of hours of your life into playing so you'll watch loads of ads, this isn't even reasonable. When will enough finally enough?! Don't you want to be able to take a vacation [AWAY FROM HOME] with your friends to attend a Fortnite tournament, learn some new techniques and strategies, practice them in your gaming themed hotel rooms, then go outside the next day to play a battle royale sport? Like, wouldn't that just be AWESOME?! 8-D Don't you want to go to a real world location where you can organize your own events with the people actually present? Don't you want a safe place to meet other gamers you're already friends with online, or to make new connections? Wouldn't it be great to live a life much like Freddie Wong's Video Game High School? Be honest, you watched it. You watched the whole series, even on Netflix. You know you did ;-) That magical experience? We want that - not only for us, but for you as well. We have the plan and the vision, and we're only just getting started. Now we need you to help us make it real. |
